Nothing new here. Seems like every old head I know could tell a story about getting "trained"; usually at the worst possible moment.
Decades ago (before 1977) I heard Engine 5 tell Fire Alarm they had just been hit by a locomotive!
I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the troops explained this one to the Chief. They were stilled out to a trash fire in the old Southern Pacific RR yards, just up Hardy Street from the firehouse, in broad daylight, in an open cab B Model Mack, and still managed to get picked off by a slow moving switch engine.
