It is with deep regret the Department announces the passing of Retired Captain Michael J. Lyons, Division 15, formerly of Ladder 30, who succumbed to his WTC illness this morning, Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Captain Lyons served our great department for 20 years. He is survived by his children: Jillian (13) and Aidan (9); his parents: Margaret & Martin, his brothers: Martin, Joseph & Patrick; and several extended family and friends.
The following arrangements have been confirmed:
Visitation: Sunday, April 3, 2022
2:00pm - 4:00 pm
7:00pm - 9:00 pm
M.A. Connell Funeral Home Inc
934 New York Ave.
Huntington Station, NY 11746
Mass of Christian burial: Monday, April 4, 2022
11am
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church
175 Wolf Hill Road.
Melville, New York 11747
Private Cremation & internment immediately following.
Mike was cited for many acts of heroism throughout his career including the rescue of an individual on 9/11 who was miraculously reunited with his pregnant wife. Mike was a contributor to the Departments periodical “WNYF” advocating for cancer prevention/awareness and nutrition.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Capt. Lyons be donated to:

The WTC doesn’t stop. Condolences to his family and Rest In Peace brother!
So true Lt. Too many with not even 20 years retired. Said goodbye to a a lot gr8 Brothers with less than 12 years retired. Just heartbreaking.
