ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

It is with regret that I announce the death of Retired Capt.Jack Boyle of Engine Co.5. Jack retired in the early 90's as a result of a fall down a pole hole in response to an alarm.Capt.Jack was a FDNY historian and well read man.He put his illustrious career in Eng 231,Bn44,Ladder 12, Eng 209 and finally Engine 5. Jack was also a longtime member and President emeritus of the FDNY Fireman's Cycle Club.

A true FDNY Legend .....Jack was into every facet of the FDNY & knew just about all the big names firsthand.....he used to hold court regularly in the "Grandstand" on Grand Ave w/a small group of Retirees....Wake Friday only at Kearns Funeral Home Woodhaven Blvd & 61 Ave http://kearnsfamily.com/rego ....... It is with deep regret the officers and members of Valley Stream Engine 2 announce the passing of former Chief of Department Thomas Bartsch. Tom joined the department in October of 1964. After rising through the ranks he served as Chief of Department in 1978 to 1979.

Tom was also appointed a New York City Firemen in 1967 and assigned to Squad 6 in Manhattan and transferred to 40 Truck in 1969. After a few years he transferred to L105 in Brooklyn where he remained until retirement in 1989.


Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Lieber funeral home (Valley Stream) on Sunday 1pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm.
Mass Monday 1045 Holy Name of Mary Church (Valley Stream)
Burial to follow at Calverton.
Department Services will be held on Sunday at 8pm.
All members are asked to assemble in full Class A Uniform at 745pm at Lieber Funeral Home.

After retirement worked for PANY/NJ. Returned to college to become a certified counselor. Following 9/11 worked at the FDNY-CSU where he counseled 1000 firefighters before retiring a third time in 2014.
The son of a firefighter he had 3 sons and 4 nephews on the job.

ADC Brown was one of the rescuers in the 6th Avenue collapse in 1966. There's a great D7 newsletter with the story.
 
On the Department Order of 7/7/22, the passing of retired firefighter John E. Golden of Division 13 passed away. John was on the job from 12/3/66 to 3/15/90. I knew John when he was a probie at E 248 and he served there for several years. He was a division aide prior to retiring. Great guy and a very good firefighter. RIP.
