Rest in Peace Mister Yetman. Thank you for your friendship, your guidance and your perspective. This is a truly sad day, but I'm sure there was a helluva reunion in the kitchen upstairs. The biggest guy in the house, and underneath one of the biggest hearts. Thoughts and prayers for your family at home and the family on St. Johns Place.

^^^^^  Thanks to Ladder2.....From the 1962 Medal Day Book:

Mayor LaGuardia Medal

Lawrence J. Yetman
Fireman 3rd Grade, Ladder Co. 132
Fire at 103 Rogers Ave., Brooklyn. Box 954, 4.08 P. M.,
January 8, 1961. 3 Story Frame, Store and Dwelling.

The fire had started beneath stairway from the 1st to 2nd floor, completely burning the stairway out, and had swept to the rear of the 1st floor, and then via the stairwell to the 2nd floor, heavily involving the rear of the second floor apartment. On arrival, the members of Ladder Co. 132 were informed that three children were trapped in the 2nd floor apartment and that several people were on the rear fire escape, afraid to pass flame that was leaping from one of the 2nd floor windows.

Fireman Yetman immediately went to the rear of the building and up the fire escape. Leading several people, and carrying Mrs. Bertha Sammis, age 70, and with a cast on her leg, he returned to the rear yard.

Then, again ascending the fire escape, he entered the 2nd floor window. Crawling because of the intense heat, he searched and finding one of the children unconscious on the floor brought him to the window to the waiting arms of other firemen. Twice more, did Fireman Yetman enter the fierce heat of this apartment, bringing out an unconscious child each time, before he retreated to the safety of the yard.

Fireman Yetman's action was performed before water was on the fire, and the heat on the fire escape was such as to burn the hands of the people who descended it, using the guard rails.

^^^^OBITUARY & SERVICE INFO RET CPT EDWARD HIGGINS...... https://hungerfordandclark.com/tribute/details/877/Edward-Higgins/obituary.html#tribute-start

I spoke with Ed at Timmy's Funeral and possibly at Dan Tracy's funeral in Baldwin, about 5 years ago
(but I am not sure of that). Had the opportunity to work with Mike, Joe (in TL-111) and Timmy when he was in R-2. To say that they are a Great FDNY family would be a complete understatement. Engine Company 227 is one of the classic Engines on the Job and one of the Best of All Time. One of my favorite Engines ever. I ran in with them many, many times during my years in Brooklyn. I know Ed wasn't doing well so it was his time. May the good Lord bless him and open up the gates for his just reward. My deepest condolences to all the Higgins family.
