a very impressive obit
greatest generation..thank you (usn..nypd..fdny)

Every time I read of another War Years Vet passes, I stop and think about what this guy might have done over his career as a firefighter.

In most cases, I really have no idea who they were. But I do have a pretty good idea of what they did. Each one has their own story to tell of a time when fires throughout New York City had reached a staggering amount. An amount that I don't think will ever be seen again, anywhere.

These guys while performing their jobs would amaze even the most experienced firefighters from across the country. It was totally unbelievable what these guys did. Not just in one night or one week, but for years - every single day. At times often going from one serious building fire to another. There was also the constant rubbish fires, car fires and false alarms.

When it comes to the Fire Dept, there is no doubt, these guys really were the Greatest Generation.

Agree totally, Bill.  Everyone had their own story to tell - and the stories are remarkable.  Dedicated, motivated, tireless, self-less service.  Thank you to all in this tread.  God bless you.
