Subject: Passing Of Richard Leach, Father of Captain Jim Leach L30

Last night my father Richard Leach passed away peacefully at Birchwood Memory care Facility. He is now at peace.
My Dad proudly served in United States Navy in Vietnam on Kearsarge CVS33 prior to joining the FDNY in October 1968 and spent his entire career in L31 until his retirement in 1995.
My family is planning to have a memorial service at a later date.

RET LT. William "Woody" Woods.  On 4/10/2020.

Bill Woods, known to all as "Woody", appointed May 1964.
Assigned to E-50 in 1964. Then transferred to E-66 as an original member in 1974.
He was subsequently promoted to Lt. and assigned to the 14th Division, spending some time UFO in L-138.
Woody then went to "The Rock" where he spent many years and was affectionately known as "the Cook" of The Rock.
Anyone who came on the job late 80s-early 90s would surely remember Woody, teaching masks or CPR to the probies.

He always had a smile and would tell you how happy he was to see you. Always calling everyone "brother".

Woody did many years in the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes & Drums Color Guard.
He also spent every December playing Santa Claus for so many firehouses, we lost count.

Bill was recently pre-deceased (suddenly) by his wife Carol, just 5 months ago, and is survived by his two sons, Billy (Ret. L-38) and Peter (Ret. L-37).

Bill was a close family friend and his smile, positivity and love of the job will be forever missed.

Due to the current COVID crisis, there are no funeral arrangements.

RIP Woody.

I was a Lt. in 50 engine 70-73. Billy was a fill- in chauffeur, when needed in 50 during those years. Billy was driving me one day. We were responding to a box and I thought we were going "to slow." I turned to Billy and said "can't you go a little faster." He looked at me and said "you want to go a little faster huh." He put the pedal to the metal and I was thrown against the seat. We went a lot faster and fortunately made it to the box in good time. I didn't get pissed as I had asked for it. Last time I saw Billy was when he was working on the rock years later. I said hello,  he laughed and asked me if I "got there fast enough." Bill Woods was a great guy and firefighter as they all were, and are. May he Rest in Peace.

I met Woody when I taught proby school. All instructors were assigned to a team of four,  I was on his 'team'. He used to share his wisdom with the probies, basically letting them know they had gotten the 'brass ring' by getting on the job stressing the importance of 'doing the right thing'. A great guy, rest in peace Brother.

Re:1356  Ret Ff.Winston Lawrence, I worked with a Winnie at The Highway House. He was a quiet tall firefighter with good heart. His son Trevor was just promoted to Lieutenant from Lad 120 where Winnie put his early years. I hope he was able to celebrate his legacy with his son, Watkins Street is known as a Legacy House and the tradition continued with the Lawrence men.
RIP Winston
