Are the riding positions on FDNY rigs assigned according to the function of each specific rider?
For example, on an FDNY engine, are the nozzle, backup, door and control FF assigned specific riding positions?
Similarly, on truck and rescue rigs, are the riding positions also assigned by function?

For Engines and Trucks, riding positions are assigned by function, but they rotate per tour.

They match the riding position up with:

Seat on the rig (Tools for position located near by)
Radio ( so EFAS knows who you are)
SCBA (PakTraker)

Yes thats how it works.  Empty seat in Engine is the "Door" has a mask and SCBA in the event they staff extra manpower.

Trucks may layout something like

LCC      Officer

OV        IRONS

Roof      CAN

This puts the inside team on one side and the outside the other.  Can man is always on the Officer side, as the Mounts for the Can's are on that side of the rig.  Some of new tilt cabs they have changed things around in some units.

So seeing as a Squad is a 'Rescue Pumper' and depending on if 1st due, acts as Engine, or 2nd-5th due, acts as Squad/Ladder Special Service depending on terminology the riding positions would look something like this.

ECC/SCC (SCC=SPECIAL SERVICE CHAUFFEUR)      OFFICER
BACK UP/OV.                                                                  NOZZLE/CAN MAN
CONTROL/ROOF                                                              DOOR/IRONS

And so what is The Rescue Co.'s riding positions besides CHAUFFEUR and OFFICER?

If Hazmat Riding positions are
Resource HZ01 Driver/CHAUFFEUR
OFFICER
Entry 1. (Primary Responsibility to check out situation do all technical hazmat work
Entry 2. (Assistance to Entry 1)
Back Up 1 (Best described as provision for two in two out)
Back Up 2
Decon. 1 (Decontamination of teqm exiting the hot zone)[but not civilians responsiblity of decon task force]
Decon. 2 (assists Decon 1)

Roles of SOC SUPPORT LADDER AND RIDING POSITION IN THE TRUCK ASSIGNED?

Roles of CPC (Chemical Protective Clothing) Co.? @ hazmat call see bronx train derailment I believe all hazmat members are present??

Role of Rescue and Squad on mva's w/pin, man unders etc. Which fall outside of the riding positions parameters?

:) :) :-X. Patiently waiting for an answer to these questions b4 asking more

Rescue and Squad Riding Positions:

Officer
Chauffeur
Can
Irons
Hook
Roof

Officer, Can, and Irons are the inside team. The outside team consists of the Chauffeur, Hook, and Roof. Also, for a Squad, Hook is also Control when operating as an Engine. Not sure about Nozzle or Backup.

On a Rescue, two-four members serve as assigned divers. One Rescue member is also assigned a rigger for rope-rescue incidents.
