I can only comment on how we use to receive calls for either fire or medical emergencies when I was an active member there.  ( 1968 ? 1977) During fund drive, where we would go door to door requesting donations we would distribute telephone and window stickers with several telephone numbers on them.  If the need arose all they needed to do was call one of the numbers, give them the information and we would respond.  As always, we would also tell them to notify either the police of FDNY if conditions permitted.  Additionally people would go directly to the fire house and sound the alarm mounted on the front of the building.  If someone was at the firehouse, the Bronx fire radio would be monitored and if one of the alarm boxes that we would normally cover were announced the alarm would be sounded and the company would respond.  At one point in time FDNY installed a pull box on the outside of the building.  We would pull this box if we knew we were responding to a working structure fire or serious emergency condition.  That was  box number 3-2610-2 and this would alert the responding FDNY companies that there was an actual fire involving some kind of structure. We did not have any form of direct radio contact with any FDNY units.  At times we would have one of our members call Bronx Fire Headquarters so that certain information about the alarm could be passed on to the responding companies.  Our alerting system was sirens and air horns / train whistle mounted on the roof of the firehouse which were sounded to notify members that there was an emergency call.

I have no idea where they'll be located or what they'll use for a rig . . . BUT:

1.  Their web site (under construction) says they're located at 300 White Plains Road  (http://www.aviation3.com/)

2.  Shortly after 9/11, the Franconia Volunteer Fire Dept of Fairfax County, VA donated a 1988 E-One pumper to Aviation to replace their 1980 ALF (ex-FDNY)  http://www.withthecommand.com/2002-Feb/aviationfdny.html, but they sold the E-One.

3.  A 2007 article in the Daily News raised a number of questions about Aviation, & I'm not aware that they ever answered all of the accusations.  http://www.nydailynews.com/news/fire-company-squanders-500g-9-11-money-article-1.264708

I'm inclined to doubt that they'd start up again with a 32-year old rig . . . but who knows?

The ALF in the TV News (http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=301429&position=1&news_type=news) article appears to be a newer model than the 1980 ex-FDNY ALF rig they hadon 9/11.

Many of us do not have access to this website.  Could you paste the article into your posting?  Thanks!

Are they responding with there old rig? and are they getting a new house? I had heard the old house was condemned

The old house was located at 1820 Harding Park and was torn down.  There is a new building on the site that I believe is owned by the local home owners association, and there was no provisions made for the fire company.  The address they give now, 300 whiteplains road to located near the intersection of Whiteplains road and OBrian Ave.  I haven't had any contact with the company since the early 1980's, I moved from the area in 1977, but I am familiar with the general area.

Yes, and you can see the ALF pumper backed in front of the Law offices on the Bronx Ch-12 News video http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=301429&position=1&news_type=news

Its official, there is a group trying to reopen the company. When & Why, I can not answer. The local community board many years ago had asked for  anew fire station to be built between the Classon Point - Castle Hill communities (96 & 64 first due areas) with new Engine & Truck Companies. A survey was done by Columbia College after the request was made public. The results of the report was interesting - "Even with this new fire station, Bronx Community Board # 9 would still be below average fire protection provided by NYC."  The site selected was in the area of White Plains Rd & Lacombe Ave.  This is an area that has seen an increase of population over the years. But the money source of the old vol dept is gone & that was the two beach clubs, Shore Haven & Castle Hill. Aviation 3 did serve the remote community of Classion Point for many of years responding from Patterson Ave to the East River, but also to nearby schools out side their 'first due boxes'.  I say no more!

I just watched a story on news about 2-members from this group that were detained while responding by NYPD. The FDNY nor Mayors Office recognize Aviation as a VFD in City of NY.

Lets hope it is just a rumor.
  Explain why????? ???

This explains why.

The volunteers are ?operating without the proper training, equipment and authorizations? and are endangering the public and city firefighters, Cassano added.
