“This morning we responded to 500 Main Street on Roosevelt Island for a reported scaffolding collapse. We arrived and and found two workers who were dangling from their safety lines after their scaffold malfunctioned. Members from Ladder 116 were able to pull one of the workers through an open window on the 5th floor. Members of Rescue 4 went to the roof and set up our high angle rope system in order to rescue the other worker. We lowered a rope to the worker and hauled him up a few feet so we could remove his safety line and lower him into the 5th floor. This was a group effort and something we train for frequently,” said FDNY Lieutenant Todd Smith of Rescue 4 on this morning’s scaffold collapse on Roosevelt Island.” FDNY Facebook page.

Great job done by the members of the FDNY as well.

Thanks for the kind words, Willy . . . but it's not that much of a trick. All I do is copy the posts that OTHER PEOPLE have made (aside from the occasional FDNY Facebook post, which I also copy) and paste them into a Word document, which I then copy and paste here at the end of the month. It's those OTHER PEOPLE who deserve the credit. They are the ones who find and post the information.

----------Disabled sailboat lodged under the Roosevelt Island Bridge in Queens. FDNY Marine Companies
----------alongside FDNY Rescue Operations Units were able to remove the occupant safely while
----------operating in a swift current. FDNY members then worked in-conjunction with the Department of
----------Transportation Bridge operators to dislodge the sailboat. FDNY Marine Companies alongside

I think there are many marine incidents, subway emergencies, lockouts, serious MVAs, power failures, fumes, odors, elevator incidents, manhole fires, water leaks etc. which never make the incidents reported in the media or on our site because there are so many and become routine "odd jobs", as they used to be called. Most of these incidents frequently get full responses and special units. Bklyn Box 3586 is a good example of a box that probably had 2 engines, 2 trucks, a rescue, 2 chiefs, EMTs or Medics and maybe a fireboat for reported people in the water with no FDNY operations required - and boxes like that happen a lot.
