Binghamton FF John Janos - RIP

St Patrick's Day 2013
"BINGHAMTON ? John Janos, a longtime city firefighter and paramedic, was mourned Saturday by those he served with for nearly 25 years before passing away Friday night while on-duty at the Hawley Street fire station. He was 57.
Janos was a dedicated firefighter and a loving family man, Fire Chief Daniel Thomas said late Saturday. The department is struggling to make sense of his loss, the chief said.
?John was a valued member of the department and a trusted friend,? Thomas said. ?He had a true feeling of what it meant to help others.?
Binghamton Fire Capt. Edward Bergman fondly recalled serving with Janos throughout his career.
?He was an all-around great guy to serve with,? Bergman said. ?You could always count on him; he was always there for you.?
Janos once served as president of Binghamton firefighters union, Local 729.
?He did a fine job as our union president, represented the department very well, and he always put the guys first,? said Fire Marshal Dan Eggleston. ?We?re all lucky to have known him ? the whole fire department is in shock.?
The circumstances of his death were unclear Saturday evening, according to fire department officials. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death, the chief said.
The department is planning a large memorial service to honor Janos.
?We will give him the proper due respect that he?s earned,? Thomas said." Courier-Journal.com
