Boston 2nd Alarm near Fenway Park.  Box 2343 struck at 2013 last night.  Apartment building with 30 apartments.  Many rescues.  2nd alarm transmitted by L 15, first truck on arrival.  Two FFs electrocuted, two other FFs injured.

First arriving companies were L 15, E 37, E 33, L 26.

Thanks Mack for the Boston Second Alarm rundown.

  Its been a while sinceI've been up to Boston and hung out at that "Whip City" Buff/Sparking Site. East Hampton and Mass Ave, I think. Right near the Boston Shops and old Eng 43/Lad 20.

  Can you tell us what some of the rigs are that you mentioned. Lkie W-25, Tac SU W-12, H-1.

Great rundown, Mack. Hope the firefighters are okay.

By the way, Willy, W-25 is BFD's Rehab. Unit, W-12 is their Air Unit, and H-1 is their Safety Officer. W-25 is usually on every job, and W-12 and H-1 are on every 2nd Alarm.

BFD currently rides with one officer and three FF on their units - not enough. 
BFD still operates fire alarm boxes.
 
Looks like this job picked up their new Chief of Dept Abraira as a spectator.  He is the first outsider to serve as BFD chief.

Thanks "FDNY10-75k" and "Mack" for explaining what those letters and numbers are for those Boston Special Units.

  Way back in the day, while "Sparking" Boston as they say it, I remember thinking Boston was a lot like NYC. One time I caught ajob in a five brick that was right next to the subway line on Washington St. It as a lot like catching a job in parts of NYC with the El subway just outside the apartment windows. At the time, the only thing missing was those Mack Tower Ladders that performed so well in the FDNY.

  Today though, I think Boston has two of them. Not Macks, but Tower Ladders.

  Thanks Grump. I know you know Boston. I thought they only had Two TLs. (3 and 17).

Grumpy's correct. Boston's got three Pierce tower ladders. Tower Ladder's 3(Downtown)(http://www.firenews.org/mass/BostonTL3exL2.jpg) and 17(Back Bay)(http://www.firenews.org/mass/BostonTL17.jpg) are 95' mid-mounts and TL10(http://www.firenews.org/mass/BostonTL10Met.jpg) is I believe an 85' rear-mount out in Jamaica Plain.

Also, I believe that Boston did have a few Sutphen towers around "back in the day". One I think was stationed on Oliver Street in Downtown, and maybe at Bowdoin Square prior to that, and was known as Tower 1. Here's a few shots, both in a lime green paint scheme:

After that, BFD went with the E-One "Tower Unit", first a 1985 95', then a 1992 95', both w/a pump and tank. The rest on BFD's Ladder fleet "back in the day" was, I think, almost all tillers. Now, it's the 3 towers and Pierce and E-One straight sticks.
 
I will never step on another members post. Back in the 70's BFD ran two Sutphen Aerial Towers, these units were run to death. Aerial Tower 1 ran out of Engine 3 house on Harrison Ave. Aerial Tower 2 ran out of E-37 house on Hunington Ave. FAO tried to get one of these unit s on all "working fires"  45-5286 as an example. Pus their still districts were the busiest in Boston. Boston definately got their money's worth on these two rigs. As a comparison FDNY rigs would be TL 14 and TL 119, both Sutphen's. I may be wrong on the companies, I apologize.
 
We went back to Boston in the early 90's. Got a chance to foto my son in front of the "Tower Unit" Anyone want to check him out???
 
grumpy ...you are correct w/TL*14 & TL*119 having the Sutphens.....the agreement between the Union & the City was that even though the Sutphen had pumps it would not be used as an ENG .....the only time the pumps were to be used was to boost pressure from a line into the TL already being supplied by an ENG......after a period of time the Sutphen at TL*14 was taken away & placed in TL*119s qtrs as a spare only to be used by 119 due to the complexity of the one of a kind (to FDNY) rig.

Mack thanx for backing me up, the historical site is fantastic. Thanx for putting the info out for all. The more we know the more we can make sure our future generations will understand. We have to preserve the past for the future.
 
I was at the Boston Sparks club last night when this came in. Half the guys there left to go to the fire but I waited for the 3rd. The members made a quick knockdown on this fire and some rescue's. The new chief was also at the Sparks Club and left to go to the fire. This area of the city is extremely hard to find a parking spot so buffing fire's here can be a parking challenge (nightmare).
