On March 26, 2014 @ 1442 Boston Fire Alarm transmitted Box 1579, Beacon and Exeter Streets for a building fire @ 298 Beacon Street. The response was Engines 33, 7, and 22 along with Ladders 26 and 24. This is not a normal response for Ladder 24 from Beacon Hill, Ladders 15 and 17 must have been at another incident. With report of a fire, the RIT companies were dispatched at 1445, Engine 37, Ladder 17 and TL-3 responded. At 1448 District 4 ordered the second alarm with Engines 3, 4, and 39 and Ladder 15 enroute. At 1450 a "MayDay" was sounded by Engine 33. Within 20 minutes this fire had escalated to 9 alarms. In addition there were numerous coverage by mutual aid companies. This fire resulted in the death of Lt. Edward Walsh of Engine 33 and FF Michael Kennedy of Ladder 15. Sunday more than 500 people attended a dedication of plaques at the quarters of Engine 33 and Ladder 15.
