Hi guys,

Hope you are all well.

Boston FD features every now and again on thses pages, so i thought I would ask a question.

Wat are Boston Jakes daily routines, where the FDNY do BISP and such like, what duties do the BFD carry out on a daily basis between calls??

Thanks in advance.

JT

JT - There is a series on youtube, "Firehouse USA" which follows BFD companies through duty tours.  It is TV and a few years old, but it will give you a perspective:

Firehouse USA Boston 1
Note - Lt Kelley, L 26, LODD featured in series - RIP

There are also a lot of FDNY tv series which show some daily routines:
"Firehouse" 1991 FDNY Part 1 of 3
BROTHERHOOD Life In The FDNY (Part 1 of 9)
The Bravest - FDNY Rescue 2 - Brownstone Fire

Some operational differences are:
Size - FDNY is much larger
Staffing - FDNY rides with 4 members, FDNY 5 or 6 members
FAST/RIT - FDNY dispatches FAST ladder, BFD dispatches engine, truck and chief RIT
Squads - FDNY only
Medical calls - FDNY dispatches engine, BFD rotates monthly engine or ladder companies
EMS - FDNY part of FDNY, Boston EMS is separate agency

Rodent ....FDNY BISP is Bldg Inspection Safety Program....updated title for what has been around since the mid Fifties  BI Bldg Inspection....each Unit has a designated area (not necessarily in line w/their response area) where they perform Bldg Inspection & enforce FD regulations.
