Today, March 3, 2024, Bridgeport, Ct Firefighters remember Captain Francis Federici who made the ultimate sacrifice on March 3rd, 1982.
The fire was in a three story building with a restaurant on the first floor with apartments above at the corner of Boston Ave and Helen St.
The upper floor collapsed and a large wooden beam came down on top of him, taking the life of Captain Federici.
Meanwhile another firefighter (FF Tommy Wilson) who suffered a broken arm was able to get to a window and hang on using only his good arm.
He held on hanging outside the window while wearing an air pack.
He was rescued by other firefighters using a ladder.
