Bronx Squad Boxes

I was under the impression that Batt 19 and Batt 18 areas were covered by Squad 61, with SQ41 taking on all Batt south of that, as well as the Battalions in Manhattan.

This proved not to be the case on two occasions over the past couple of days, when SQ41 responded, after E88 requested a Squad for a spillage of fuel. I was listening in on the Bronx at the time, and SQ 61 was 10-8, away for the rig for training and contactable by radio, but they were never called up.

The second instance was the All-Hands on Richmond Plaza, where again, SQ 41 took in the box.

Have the Squads repsonse areas changed??

Thanks in advance

When you say the battalions in Manhattan, are you forgetting Squad 18 which covers most of Manhattan?

I think he was just pointing out that Sq-41 goes into upper manhattan for boxes, similarily to how R-3 covers upper manhattan.

Squad boxes are not all by Battalion. SQ 61 responds to E75 's first due boxes in the 19th. SQ 41 gets E42 & E43. In the 3rd Battalion SQ61 covers E96  and E64 but not E94

The above info was good for me also. Since the Squads (1, 18, 41, 61, 252, 270, and 288) were put into service, I always thought their response area was based on Battalion Districts. All this time I see I was Wrong. Thanks for the info.

From what I've seen Squads 288 and 270 are the exceptions to the rule, responding more or less along Division lines (except when each other is an engine of course).

Thanks HCO, i refered to Squads responding by battallion areas, as in the Book 'FDNY An Operational Reference', under Special Unit Responses, it lists everything response wise by Battallions, but thanks for clearing that up.

A great reference book by the way. Thanks for all your work.

288 & 270 also responds according to engine company response areas rather than divisions...Examples: 270 has a few 14th division boxes out in the 53 Battalion..  And 315 Engine has lots of 13th division boxes but its a 288 response area engine.
