Pres. Vinny Ventresca of local 282 cites multiple apparatus failures, aging equipment and lack of reinvestment in new equipment as key reasons the BFD was unable to respond as needed during the 11 working fires that occurred during the storm.
Personally, I think he's right on the money with the calls for newer and more capable equipment for the BFD, especially for all-weather/heavy snow events. BFD, BPD and even the DPW were getting hung up all over the place in drifts, leading to lots of apparatus being abandoned during the storm.
