June 18, 2007, lets not Forget the Charleston 9 who have joined their other Brothers who have given up so much for us. May the Lord watch over their families and give them the strength to move on. A very SAD Day that we should Never Forget. GOD BLESS THE CHARLESTON 9.

Last year while I was at the National Fire Academy they had a seminar about this fire. The speaker was an investigator that had worked on the investigative report for this fire. He happened to be teaching a class there at the time. I don't remember his name but he is from somewhere in the state of New York and he was in an Inspector in fire prevention for a dept. This was a very chilling story. He was not there to place blame or fault anywhere. He just shared the story with us. After the 2 hour lecture everyone left the room speachless. It was very moving. It is something that I would never forget. Sitting in on this lecture was well worth the whole trip. Well that and running up to NYC to see my buddy at 33/9 over the weekend between classes.

I am sorry that I didn"t mention this earlier, but along with the Charleston 9, it was almost the same time of the year, on June 17th, that The City of Boston lost nine firefighters in 1972. It was at the Boston Vendome Fire. As I remember it, the fire was just going under control when there was a collapse that killed these nine firefighters. We should NEVER forget those brave firefighters known as the Boston 9 and the Charleston 9. Very sad times for the entire fire service and their families.
