Chesapeake, Va. (February 15, 2026) – Firefighters with the City of Chesapeake Fire Department are currently operating at a two-alarm commercial structure fire in the South Norfolk area of the city.
Emergency dispatchers received the call at 1:05 p.m. Engine Company 1 arrived on scene at 1:08 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of a one-story commercial building.
The structure, located at 222 Liberty Street and 1512 16th Street, operates under the business name A1 Auto. The locally owned business has served the community for more than 25 years under its current ownership.
Firefighters initially made an aggressive interior attack; however, due to the advanced fire conditions and concerns regarding structural stability, crews were withdrawn from the building. Command transitioned operations to a defensive strategy, utilizing multiple ladder trucks to deliver aerial master streams onto the structure.
Assistance was provided through automatic aid from Norfolk Fire-Rescue, including Engine 8 and Ladder 8.
At the time of the fire, no occupants were inside the building. No injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported.
