a still and box alarm was called in for a fire at 1:15 a.m. with the report of people trapped. first engine on scene reported they had fire venting from the second floor windows. when battalion 9 (STILL CHIEF) pulled up he called for an EMERGENCY 2-11 due to the 3 story building being fully involved. an EMS plan 1 was also called in right after that for multiple injuries including 4 police.
Firefighters could not make entry into the front of the building because of the stairwell being fully involved. they were able to get in the back and work on searches. 6 handlines were used to get the fire undercontrol.
a 7 year old child and her 23 year old pregnant mother were killed in the fire. multiple burn and smoke inhalation victims also were reported.
