Chicago has a 3-11 alarm with an EMS Plan 2 for a fire in a 27 story high rise @ 1212 N Lake Shore Drive. A Mayday was declared but it was cleared. According to WBBM radio a CFD spokesman said one member has been taken to the hospital in very critical condition. Elevators are out of service.

As, myself an experienced High-Rise Firefighter and Fire Officer know well the strain of having to climb multiple floors in a High-Rise Fire due to the danger, of even firefighters using Firemen's Service Equipped Elevators. When the elevators are compromised by heat, fire or water. the only option for firefighters is to climb the stairs, with up to 100 L.B.S. of gear and equipment for each firefighter/fire officer. The answer is special Fire Hardened dedicated elevators for firefighter use in fires. They are costly for building owners, but if you want to build a High Rise building it must be a required addition during all phases of construction and building use.
We mourn the loss of both our brother firefighters, in the great Chicago Fire Dept. over the last two days. Rest in Peace Brothers.

maybe if this building had a sprinkler system things would have been different today.
