Chief Dunn has a new book coming out "The Firefighter?s Battlespace "

No disrespect to Chief Dunn in particular, he is most certainly an authority on structural firefighting. But, at least to me, the "militarization" of the Fire Service is at worst ludicrous, and at least, funny. Funny not from a laughing with you point, rather laughing at you. From the "Firefighter "Combat" Challenge", to FDNY Yutube videos at Randalls Island describing "my Spartans", to this reference to the "Battlespace". A furniture store fire in NYC is hardly combat, or a combat zone. Don't get me wrong, I have the highest respect for the Fire Service, and have lost friends in the Fire Service- but really, enough is enough. Why not just let it be what it is- a noble profession with an element of risk. Enough with the histrionics and hyperbole- you make yourself look silly.
Oh, by the way, I've been in combat zones more than once.
Looking for time in the combat zone- that's the military.
Putting my flame retardant suit on now- fire away.

I have not heard of this book however can you elaborate on your post ?

While I served three years in the Navy those years were "between wars," was never in a combat situation. I do not know how I would have performed in combat, would have to be in it to know. The same must be said of police officers and firefighters. For someone who has never been in a fire to opinion a personal belief on how they would perform, insults those who have, says all that needs to be said about this person.

I think Jimmy Breslin said " firemen dont go to work, they go to war"...interesting angle.....if ya did 25 runs and caught 3 jobs
