The eight Communications Engines (7, 35, 46, 246, 279, 332, 263, 303) provide additional communications capability working with the Field Comm Unit at major incidents. One is assigned on third alarms, 10-60/10-66/10-76, and other signals. Each carries handheld and post radios. Two, E-7 and E-263, also have Kutta radio systems with repeater capability. One of the latter two is assigned at Manhattan incidents.
