The Cumberland FD was dispatched to a fire coming from the flue pipe as it transitioned into the chimney located in a bathroom in a 2 and 1/2 story wood frame private dwelling at 48 Forest Acres Lane Cumberland, Va. The call went out at 2116 hours and CFD Engine 24 arrived OS at 2124 hours with fire showing from the Alpha side 2nd floor. With only 4 or 5 interior firefighters they stretched and 1 and 3/4 line inside and found only a smoke condition as fire was in the walls of bathrooms on the first and 2nd floors headed for the attic. Quickly opening up the walls on both the 1st and 2nd floors fire was found in those voids and also venting out the 2nd floor bathroom window spreading along the fascia and soffit's. A 2nd line was stretched via a ladder to a roof area where they were able to open up voids as well as an attic ladder into the attic were fire was about to travel. The Randolph District FD arrived with 3 more interior firefighters just as the fire was placed under control 30 minutes after Engine 24's arrival. MY hat is off to those awesome firefighters. Cumberland FD you should be proud that you left this house standing and repairable!
