The Cumberland FD assisted by the Randolph District FD, Cartersville FD and Powhatan Co. 3 and 5 battled a structure fire in a 100 year old frame dwelling at 1465 Anderson Highway Cumberland, Va. at 0800 hrs. this morning. The house was extremely cluttered with everything making it difficult to progress inside the structure. Heavy fire on arrival greeted first arriving companies. A tin roof had to be ventilated and piles of deep seated clothes, mattress's and solid wood ceilings made it difficult to extinguish the fire. Companies picked up around 1100 hours.

10/3/23 @ 0750 Cumberland VFD was dispatched to the 1400 block of Anderson Hwy for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment. Units arrived to find fire showing from the front of the house. Crews made an aggressive attack through the front door while a second crew went through the rear door to search. Shortly after making entry, all occupants were located outside the house and safe.
Crews made a quick knockdown on the fire then spent several hours overhauling due to the cluttered conditions and the building construction. The home was built pre-1920 and had true dimension lumber walls & ceiling. The home also lacked an attic access so holes had to be cut in the roof for access.
