Did you know the lightning capital of the US? Nope, not Florida. According to the weather company Vaisala it's the Union Pacific Railroad town of Flatonia, Texas. In 2021, Flatonia had 1,043 lightning events per square mile.

Yup. Flatonia is a hamlet of about 1800 people on I-10 about half-way between Houston and San Antonio. Been through it many times, fortunately never in a thunderstorm.
