Don't know if this effects Duck boats tours elsewhere operated by other US and international locations, too. These are old World War II boats (officially DUKWs) that are already well beyond their life expectancies. DUKWs were used by the US Army/Navy/Marines and many were sent overseas to our allies (Britain/Australia/Soviet Union etc.).
DUKWs may still be in use (primarily as tourist transport) in : Seattle; Philadelphia; Cincinnati; Pittsburgh; Chattanooga; Nashville; Boston; Branson, Missouri; Grapevine, Texas; Hot Springs, Arkansas; Saugatuck, Michigan; Liverpool; London; Ottawa, Canada; Dublin, Ireland; Rotorua, New Zealand; Belgian coast (Blankenberge, Koksijde) ;The Netherlands; Singapore; Washington, D.C.; Stone Mountain Park, Atlanta, Georgia, Portland, Maine and Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

There have been other safety problems with DUKWs/Duck Boats in the past. 13 died in a 1999 accident in Arkansas. Boat was also missing plugs and sank in 30 seconds.

Maybe the NYC ferry system is a safer way to travel on water.
