They were sharp looking but slightly underpowered, tight jumpseats, and falling apart prematurely. American LaFrance got in over their heads going after the FDNY bid and then couldn’t keep up with the warranty work. That resulted in their demise .
A real shame since American La France built some good rigs through the years before 1980. An example was the rearmount assigned to 732/176. One of the chauffeurs in the Tin House said it was the best rig he had ever operated.

I agree wholeheartedly. I would love to own a Mack CF and a 1970ish American LaFrance. They used to build great workhorses.
