Yes those very busy days in Brooklyn. Williamsburg, Bed-Sty, Bushwick, Brownsville, Flatbush, I remember buffing a few jobs there. And I also remember seeing that kind of equipment that is now on display at the firehouse (216/108), actually being used.

  Where did the time go ? A year or two ago I went to a fire musuem in Rhode Island. The kind of equipment that I remember using was on display there. For many now, their grandfather was on the job, their father was on the job, and now "they" are on the job.

  From those busy War Years till now, three generations of firefighters have passed through those firehouse doors.
 
nfd...you are right about the generations ......i remember the first time i worked w/the Son of a guy i had worked with..... i "thought" i was old however years later when the guys Sons were Chiefs also i really felt old.

Dan Dimonda RIP....Phil Reneiris RIP....Dave Charters RIP.....Tiller rig at right is 108s 1st '74 Seagrave w/the sliding Tiller canopy which was soon replaced by Seagrave w/a fixed top & sliding side doors......also the only new Seagrave Tiller w/25' & 35' extension ladders mounted on sides of rig rather than slid into a rear tray (Thanks to Steelcraft on Meserole St.)........Dave C. the fellow on the right was in a watering hole in his neighborhood (Q.V.) around the time of this picture when 2 scumbags came in to rob the joint...they lined everybody up & said put your watches & wallets in the bag.....when they got to Dave he said "you can have my stuff just let me remove my FFs badge from my wallet" the scum said "PUT IT IN THE BAG"......as they got to the door the guy w/the gun turned around & said "hey Fireman ...this is for you" & cranked off a round causing Davey to lose a kidney.

Sad to see the hostility towards the troops extended into the off duty hours as well.

Regarding the ladders added to the side of the rig, you guys were lucky to have a Captain who was open to modifying the rig. The first Captain I rode under would not allow any mods to the '59 Mack. His attitude was "that's the way the city gave it to us, that's the way it's gonna stay"
When we got the '72 rearmount we had a new Captain, whose first question was "what do you want to do to it?". First thing we did was to mount the can on the front bumper.
Over the years, it always seemed that when companies made changes to the rig (or to quarters) those changes made for the better operation and improved company morale.

Wow, Dalbert was one of the first friends I made in 1979 over at 308 Engine in Queens. Hope he is doing well, as I haven't seen him in God knows how long.
