Fire crews report the plant is heavily engulfed, and firefighters are operating in a defensive mode due to the intensity of the fire. The incident remains active, and crews are in the early stages of operations.
The Georgia-Pacific plant ceased normal operations in May 2025 and was permanently closed around July 1, 2025, according to previously released company information.
Emporia is on I-95 (the major north-south highway through eastern Virginia) about 10 miles north of the North Carolina border.
