A squad is an enhanced engine so they would respond as engines on regular assignments.and I think this is more than a "kitchen table rumor", spoke to someone who actually works in this house and its 99% gonna happen

OK Joeyengine ....now this makes sense to me ...i had completely forgot about the fact that 12 % was already in play in the HM ENG.....to me in the City's eyes another 12% Unit would be the biggest stumbling block but as you pointed out it is already being paid so this may certainly fly.Joeyengine said:To be very honest with all the non FDNY members and non city residences ( no I'll harm against anyone), it will be very cost effective to turn an already HAZ-MAT engine that's already is making 12% more than regular members into a squad , rather than making a completely new unit with a completely new house...its not in the city budget. So with that said its just easier to train the members of that unit some extra rescue techniques...(they don't need the hazmat porition). Being a resident of Staten island and having transfered to the island I welcome the new Squad.

It's sure seems like Staten Island can use a squad as well as a couple engines and trucks and Battalion with the growth of SI it's going to get busier and busier, but with budgets getting smaller and smaller it will be tough to find the money for expansion, permanent relocations from other Burroughs are not the answer either, maybe with this new mayor someone with influence from SI can get his ear and convince him the additional needs that are growing every year. It's not fair to Brooklyn to have to send company's to Staten Island for relocation all time when there's jobs because there's no depth in resources on SI. If there is a big job in Brooklyn, like a 10-60 or something that rescue 5 is operating at and utilizing multiple squads and rescues as well as SOC trucks and something happens on Staten Island that requires a collapse task force or special resources, they are looking at way to long on scene without the required resources. With all the construction that goes with expansion, accidents are inevitable.
