Engine 85

A few have been posted on here of the Rig & the BX Tinhouse after they moved there.

The rig in the photo was a 1968 Mack CF (shop #1026). It was their 2nd rig as their first was a 1959 Mack C-95 1000GPM pumper that was formerly at Eng. 153 on S.I. That Mack C was then reassigned in 1968 to Squad 1 (Harlem).
 
Some clarification regarding Engine 85?s history and apparatus:

Engine 85?s original pumper had Registration 1026.The pumper in the photo (above) had Registration 1081.

Engine 85 was originally a fireboat and was disbanded in 1959. The new Engine 85 was organized on July 1, 1967 in the quarters of Engine 82 and Ladder 31 with the "second hand" 1959 Mack C95F (formerly E153) which was the one that was actual #1026. The one that replaced it is the photo shown. It was a 1968 Mack CF611F that was the actual #1081. That in turn was replaced by a 1971 Mack CF611F that had the new series of numbers with #MP7131, later replaced with a 1975 Mack CF611F, # MP7515 and finally with a lime yellow 1981 Mack CF611F numbered MP8106. Engine 85 was disbanded on May 20, 1986.
 
when I think of engine 85 I immediately think of Fr. brian Sullivan who got promoted out of E85 and brought his war years experience and his "cellar fire drill" and passed it on to all of us as a Lt. at E217.

  Sorry, I messed up and put #1026 for the '68 Mack instead of #1081.  :-[
