At about 12:08 an F/A 18 fighter jet crashed into a apartment complex. Both pilots safely ejected. All other info is unknown at this time.

I'll try to get a full rundown maybe tomorrow

VBFD and the USN are working together under a unified command structure

Every person says the pilots struggled to make the ocean, dumping fuel to save weight and reduce the fire hazards. I am sure ejecting was last on their minds, they did everything to make a bad situation good, but!!

As of 5:00 PM, the local hospital has received 7 patients, including the 2 pilots, 1 EMT and 1 police officer.  So far, no life-threatening injuries.  The City of Virginia Beach is instructing anyone who may have a missing family member who lives in the Mayfair Mews Apartments to call 757-385-3111. A first responder will attempt to locate them.

As of 5:30pm, primary search of all 40 apartments involved is complete & negative; secondary searches underway.

They did eject at the last possible second. Ejection seats and a parachute was found very close to the fireground

Deano "vbcapt", as soon as I heard about this, you came to mind. Did you catch it and whenever you get a chance, can you give us a rundown on it.

  Thanks Deano.

As of 9:40 PM, 95% of secondary searches are complete and negative.  All but 3 occupants of the apartments have been accounted for, and no one has been reported missing. The 3 unaccounted for may be out of town, or otherwise unavailable for contact . . . at least that's what is hoped.

Deano is right . . . one pilot came down in front of a retired EMT's apartment.  The ex-EMT checked him out, then removed him from the area, because the flames from the crash were threatening them.  That's CLOSE. Another parachute was hung up on the next building over from the crash site.

Secondary searches are complete and negative.  The 3 people who were unaccounted for have been located.  Of the 7 people who were sent to the hospital, 6 were treated & released.  It's being called the "Good Friday Miracle" since no one was killed.

Ray, you sure are right about it being called "The Good Friday Miracle". Its Unbelieveable. It goes on the same page as "Miracle on the Hudson".

Willy:

I will provide a rundown. Right now I'm on a 5 day break and I'll be back on duty Tuesday or earlier if I get OT. Once I pull it up, it may take a little while to decipher through all the mindless info our 911 operators put in the system.
