Engine 68 former quarters - 1908-1979  1080 Ogden Ave  High Point  Bronx

Currently EMS Bn 17 Station House

Ladder 49's original 1913 vintage firehouse was at 1079 Nelson Ave. which is directly behind this house. L49 ran out of 1080 Ogden from 1947-1979.

So from 1947-1979 both E68 and L49 operated out of this small firehouse?

Yes, that house is pretty deep, I remember when E68's Mack C was in front of L49's FWD 75ft. woodstick.

Does anyone have a picture of E48's old quarters? I believe they were in these quarters until the late 70's.

The old Engine 48s quarters had been the home of Model Cities Salvage 3 for a few years in the late 70s, maybe early 80s.

I know of at least two fires in that building when Salvage 3 was closed down. One was an all hands that I saw while buffing, the other I believe went to a Second Alarm.

"Engine No. 1, as its number indicates, was organized when the Paid Department came into existence. It was installed in the house on Fourth Avenue, between Eighteenth and Nineteenth Streets, which, prior to that time, had been occupied by Putnam Engine No. 21, of the Volunteer Department, and remained there until Aug. 20, 1891, when it was reorganized and moved to a new building of better design and more ample accommodations on Fourth Avenue, between Fifty-first and Fifty-second Streets."
