The rig that is pictured in the story was Ladder 8. This was a 1941 125' ALF painted white, shop #207. After another aerial mishap the aerial had to be cut away from the turntable. This left many members that this was a jinxed truck. The rig was repainted red, a 100' aerial was attached briefly to Ladder 8 again. In 1947 rig was assigned to Ladder 19 but continued to have mechanical problems. While conducting a braking test after complaints of the rig having problems the rig jack-knifed, killing one FF and injuring several others. Rig was immediately scrapped, this was the only rig Boston brought that was painted white.
