Yeah me too, gotta love it.
One time "cousin" Harry Doyle was on, and he knew that some of us from Philly E-81 were up "visiting" in the boro. Well, when Philly got an extra in the old days they would move to then F-2, and allow the extra to operate on that freq. But, when they did, and their repeater began heating up (those lovely old tube units), it had a bad habit of keying up the Brooklyn repeater and cause unwanted interference. The only remedy then, was to go "mixer off" to keep Brooklyn moving till they could rectify it.
Well on that particular day, knowing we were "in town" Harry went over the air with the following message( an approximation) "to all units operating or "listening" on the Brooklyn frequency, due to an extra alarm fire in the city of Philadelphia at pier #6 on the Delaware Ave. waterfront, we will be experiencing radio interference. "
At that point knowing our own company in Philly was going to work, we quickly hi-tailed it back to Philly, being grateful for "cousin" Harry's "notification", so we wouldn't miss it. At the time of the "message" it was only a 2nd alarm. by time we got there (about 90 min. later) it had gone to a 4th, and we made it back to "go to work"
Thanks Loads Harry!!!!! ;D
