The 1937 Mack was their last rig when they were disbanded on Jan. 1, 1947 after working at a 4th alarm from the night before (12-31-46) at Box 396 @Broadway & 8th St. According to Gus Johnson's "FDNY FIRE BUFF'S HANDBOOK OF THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT": "Engine Co. 20 from Lafayette St. was one of five Engine Companies due to be deactivated the following morning. Thus the Company went out of service in a most dramatic way, for this was its final fire. The following morning the apparatus was removed from the scene, its compliment of men remaining on the scene."
