Firefighter Pollard arrived with the Fire Department of New York City’s Ladder Co. 170 at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on the Belt Parkway, just east of Flatbush Avenue. He was attempting to reach the victims on foot, and was crossing over from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes, where their vehicle was, when he fell to the ground below. Fire officials said Pollard plunged 52 feet as he tried to traverse a gap in the road. The Mill Basin bridge was recently rebuilt, and now features a 2½- to 3-foot-wide space between each side of the highway.

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven Pollard
1988 – 2019
Beloved Son of Raymond G. Pollard and Janet T. (Fadelici) Pollard. Loving Brother of Raymond G. Pollard Jr. and his wife, Nicole. Adored Uncle of Raymond III and Lyla. Cherished Love of Brianna Torkell.

Dedicated firefighter of FDNY Ladder Co. 170.
An FDNY firefighter died Sunday after falling from the Belt Parkway's Mill Basin drawbridge in Brooklyn — where he was trying to save two injured motorists who flipped their car and got trapped.
