FDNY Line of Duty Death
January 6, 2019 - LODD
Firefighter Steven H. Pollard, 30
Ladder Co. 170
FDNY – New York
Firefighter Pollard arrived with the Fire Department of New York City’s Ladder Co. 170 at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on the Belt Parkway, just east of Flatbush Avenue. He was attempting to reach the victims on foot, and was crossing over from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes, where their vehicle was, when he fell to the ground below. Fire officials said Pollard plunged 52 feet as he tried to traverse a gap in the road. The Mill Basin bridge was recently rebuilt, and now features a 2½- to 3-foot-wide space between each side of the highway.
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven Pollard
