I think and I could be wrong it was a R2 Capt or Lt that had some help from the Mayors office. Going on memory from a book I read. I remember that the officers spots in the rescues aren't taken lightly but dont remember the details off hand.Just curious if anyone has knowledge, but I seem to recall a show about 9/11 where they were discussing Captain Hatton of R-1 and I believe they said he was selected by either the Mayor or FC for that spot. Does this hold true today? Is the Captain's spot in the Rescue Co.'s appointed by the Mayor or FC? Thanks
You may be thinking of the fact Hatton was married to an aide of the Mayor and was reportedly very close to him. Of course, nobody would question that Hatton was qualified for the role. My understanding is the FC would be kept abreast of any prominent assignment such as Rescue Captain, but doesn't personally make the decision. That said, some FCs seem to be more hands-on than others.Just curious if anyone has knowledge, but I seem to recall a show about 9/11 where they were discussing Captain Hatton of R-1 and I believe they said he was selected by either the Mayor or FC for that spot. Yeah you could be correct. It was many years ago that I saw the episode. I’d think the SOC Chief would look at candidates for the spot. You may be thinking of the fact Hatton was married to an aide of the Mayor and was reportedly very close to him.
