FDNY Rigs circa 1968

Hello all...I was lucky enough to receive the collection of Chicago area historian Ron Mattes I am sad to say Ron passed away many years agoplease enjoy...his specialty was photographing big city firehouses...I have scanned in a bunch of FDNY houses and rigs that were taken in 1968..I believe all the firehouse shots were taken by Ron but the rig shots probably were taken by some one else...not sure who but I found them in Ron's collection. I think you'll agree these are simply amazing...Not sure how many I can post in any single post but there are around 250 or so to share...Enjoy the history

Nice pictures! Good rear view of Satellite 3 and the SP in one photo. Also the picture of Richmond Engine 1 to the left I believe was a garden shop at one time. My dad went there pretty often in the summer and I remember being in there many times. No Home Depot then. Does anyone recall the name of the place?

I have seen these same exact pictures posted on a FB site by someone I know. In fact he used the same exact description to start off with you have. The first set shows the manifold that was carried in the car driven by the satellite officer. A coincidence or did you take these off another site?

When I first saw the pixs I thought that they had been posted by other than the rightful owner. I know the owner, Steve Redick, a retired CFD dispatcher and a good photographer with several CFD apparatus books, including the old stuff. I over-reacted when I saw the post and I was wrong. You will like Steve's work. Maybe my posts can match up with his.

I saw all the photos on facebook. They are amazing. I would have loved to be around to see some of those trucks working.
