Yes the mockup of the overhead wires in the background. The photo of the "Emergency Utility" rig looks like it was taken at the Training School when it was on Welfare Island.
Rev - Silver Beach Gardens is in the Bronx. The passages below is from the book "Bronx in Bits and Pieces" by Bill Twomey.Ok , experts out there, Atlas, Mack, Gman, where was Silver Beach VFD and doesanyone know the location of the overgrown house with the bell tower?
Yes.Believe they were in Locust Point Bronx NY
I always thought these grill modifications looked like they were very unceremoniously done.....I could see it being done on maybe a ten year old spare if need be but I had seen this done by the Shops on brand new '60s Chiefs Rigs....I like the grill mods on the Dodge to fit the bell and siren on the bumper! Also notice in one pic to the left a VW Karmann Ghia not a car you see anymore. When I lived at home next door to us were 2 brothers who had their own band. I was probably 10 or so and they were maybe 10 years older. They had a few different Karmann Ghias. At the time these guys were cool because they were older and drove so I always remembered their cars.
Locus Point was not part of the community. Locus Point still remains a remove area of the Bronx with only one way in & out. Its located next to the Throggs Neck Bridge & is only a few block wide & long.Yes.
On the other hand, they are separate communities within Throggs Neck section of The Bronx. Silver Beach is located south of Pennyfield Ave. and east of Schurz Ave. Bounded by the East River on the communities other side. Across I-295 is the community of Edgewater Park which still maintains an active volunteer fire dept. Edgewater Part is the last active VFD in The Bronx.Yes.
If my memory is correct, the truck was formally used by fire communications line crew and once it was replaced the Bureau of Training took it so that they could do some of their own repair work. The photo of the "Emergency Utility" rig looks like it was taken at the Training School when it was on Welfare Island.
