FDNY Rookie Firefighter Injuries Rise After Standards Lowered

Gee, does anybody find this surprising?  If and when they finally do manage to graduate it's just going to translate into more on-the-job injuries and more paid medical leave and more overtime etc.  The lowering of standards was the worst thing that could've been done!

Let's see...

1.  Take a civil service test
2.  Wait to be called
3.  Get sworn in
4.  Wait 2 weeks, file for retirement.

All-in-all, not a bad gig.

I know of a few senior members on this site that might be interested in applying for the next test. Some 55, 65 and even 70 year olds that can probably make it longer through the Rock's Training than some of these Rookies.

Some tough old guys that still have some push left in them. So for those who will be recycled through again, you may have some real competition to worry about next time.

How many law suits will be filed by those who failed to meet standards in the past and were not given an additional 3, 4, 5 chances?  How many law suits will be filed by those who were only given one chance to pass the PT test and failed?

Will the city pay back pay to those who failed out and were not paid when given chances to re-enter the next class?

If you change the rules now, or if you don't have rules any more, why shouldn't they expect to get a check from the city for nothing?

Also, even more important, if someone cannot meet physical requirements when in their 20s, what can they do when they are 35 or 40?  I hope FDNY has a lot of admin jobs at Metro Tech and Ft Totten.

Just don't count out some of the younger guys from this site who will also be taking the test next time. We won't let you guys win without a fight ;D

Also just get recycled thru 3 Academy classes & get paid for a year & a half of just showing up 5 days a week just dragging ass.

Willy, are you saying I need to bring my workout clothes?

  Actually two things "Rev".

First, we need you to pray for these "Unfit Future Firefighters". We need them to toughen up.

Second Rev, bring those workout clothes you got. Show these kids what an Ole' Reverend like yourself can do when you really need to get mean and nasty.

Bill, in 65 days we can apply together!

I'll be honest I've been a fireman for almost 3 years now, but it does take a senior man nor rockert scientist to know that it's a completely stupid idea to lower standards........they were set for a reason, the brothers before you past the test and training, and were worthy of wearing the gear and riding the piece. Go to take your drivers test and fail, the DMV worker doesn't go ok you know what you suck but we'll give you your license anyways. I failed my firefighter 1&2 non-fire exam the first time, I screwed up, not the mass fire academy proctors, I did, so I practiced what I screwed up and went at it again, at no exaggeration, someone will be killed eventually if this trend continues, either a probie or any other member will pay for this unfortantly
