The ladder & eng companies don’t have divers. Only the rescue companies have divers. The ladder & engine companies are surface swimmers.

Fourteen engines and 52 ladders are trained and equipped for Water Rescue (not dive operations). Seventeen of those units are further designated Surf Rescue units and have surfboards and 600-foot ropes.

What does everyone think. Should we post all FDNY water rescues under this topic?
I think they would best be posted as an incident in the respective boro incident listings (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, SI) where they have always been posted. That seems to work for all non-fire incidents that are of interest or that require significant resources - subway/train incidents; MVAs/pins; HAZMAT; collapses; etc. It might get confusing to find specific incidents if they are not located in their respective boro thread by date. There are a few members on this site who compile response data and use the boro listings. Water incidents that expand beyond one boro can be listed in the city-wide thread. But if you want to list water incidents or subway incidents additionally in a separate thread, that is OK, too.

I agree with Joe (Mack).

I just thought sometimes when grouped by Boro certain incidents get lost among the many Fires & other Emergencies ....Water incidents especially Life Saving ones are an important aspect of the FDNY & having them in a single thread shows the work being done in an ongoing grouped format.....JMO whatever you fellows think is fine with me.
