Today, after over 39 years of dedicated service to the City of New York, FDNY Chief of Staff Elizabeth Cascio is retiring.
Chief of Staff Elizabeth Cascio began her career with New York City EMS in 1984 and has been with the FDNY since the 1996 merger. She was promoted to Chief of Staff in 2018. Previously, she served as Executive Officer to the Fire Commissioner, the first woman and EMS officer to do so in Department history. She began her career as an EMT in Brooklyn, later serving as a 911 medical dispatcher and as program coordinator for the EMS Cadet Program. In 1993, she responded to the bombing of the World Trade Center. In 1994, she helped develop and implement the FDNY CFR training program, teaching firefighters to respond to medical emergencies. Chief of Staff Cascio responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11/01 and worked at the site in the days, weeks and months that followed. Cascio created the FDNY’s life safety mascot “Siren” and oversaw the Department’s renovation of the FDNY Fire Zone which teaches fire and life safety education. She also helped to launch the FDNY Pro Podcast and was an editorial advisor for FDNY Pro EMS.
Cascio is a certified FEMA Emergency Management Master Exercise Practitioner and has developed tabletop and full-scale exercises with the FDNY Exercise Design Team, as well as the New York City Office of Emergency Management. She has also served on the Regional Emergency Medical Service Council of New York City BLS subcommittee and has co-authored BLS Treatment Protocols. The FDNY wishes Chief of Staff Cascio a happy and healthy retirement.

Are these pictures of her ‘walkout’? If so I didn’t see the Commissioner in them are things so bad she couldn’t take the time for a 39yr career veteran of the job.
