I know you can look up box numbers by boro to get the location of a fire box.  Two questions (1) is there a site where you can do a reverse query i.e. give a street location and get the location of the nearest box number. (2) is there a list of boxes by boro with their locations somewhere?

Fightnfire36, I think what he is referring to is the fact that there is a Web Site called FDNew York.com where if you put in a box number it will come up with that location. The Web Site is run by a Brooklyn Dispatch Supervisor named Frank Raffa. "FD347" on this site (?). If you go down that page, you can type in any box number and the location will come up.
EFD274 is looking for the reverse of that I believe. (Give street and GET box number).

I am not aware of such a site but if you download the Google Earth placemark I made for Brooklyn Boxes it will show you the box locations. From there you can use the search feature to zoom in on an address and then see which box is closest.

This is a little something I've been working on now and then.  It will take a while to complete but so far I have most boxes south of the Williamsburg Bridge excluding Battery Park City and 8000 series boxes:

This is great - do you plan on doing all five boros and how long will it take you - 6 months, 2 years etc?

Best case scenario a month or so just to do a borough, worst case scenario till someone beats me to it  ;D

Catry - retirement was quick - you're still needed - if possible do Queens first

If you scroll down some it looks like he has Queens and SI as well, unless those don't have box locations.

I did do an updated apparatus map of Manhattan though: http://tinyurl.com/nejsk9 Might've caught the Google Earth bug
