HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 27-year-old was charged after allegedly breaking into a Kaimuki fire station, where law enforcement sources say he was discovered naked in a bathroom.

The suspect allegedly broke in through a ground floor bathroom window while firefighters were inside asleep. Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, a firefighter reported being woken up by a man who had flipped on the lights inside the dorm at Fire Station No. 5 in Kaimuki.

The suspect was allegedly wearing a Honolulu Fire Department t-shirt.

Initially, the witness thought the 27-year-old was just another firefighter. But later, when he got up to use the bathroom, he found the suspect standing naked in front of a sink.

It’s a story that left people in the neighborhood puzzled.

“It’s crazy. I guess. I don’t know what the objective was,” said Ricky Garcia.

Bobby Lee, president of the Firefighters Union, told HNN it’s rare to have people break into a fire station “because obviously we live there. We’re there 24/7.”

He called it a brazen crime, saying fire stations are generally very secure.

“As a whole the security of the stations is pretty well taken care of,” Lee said. “We don’t leave our apparatus doors open if nobody’s on the apparatus floor.”

Sources says the suspect ripped through a window screen to get inside, causing a couple hundred dollars in damage.

The susect was charged with second-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling. He’s since been released on a $7,500 bail.

HNN did a background check on the suspect. It appears he has no criminal history.

A few years ago in Cincinnati, someone stole firefighters personal electronics from the station while they were out on a run.

I remember one FH incident where a perp got access to the 2nd fl of the FH & crawled into the Officers Bunk room & was actually trying to remove a watch off the wrist of a resting LT....he awoke & the perp escaped which was lucky for the perp as the LT was a monster.....another time in our then fairly new Qtrs which was shared with the NYPD 90 Pct & ESU Truck*8 there was a rectangular space in the center of the block long bldg to provide windows to the 2nd fl interior rooms around the bldg, ....one night when we had a Run & the lights came on someone dove under one of the bunks ... the last FF in the room saw him but thought it was the FF assigned that bunk fooling around ... he stopped & was yelling to him "come on we have a Run"......when he got no response he went closer & the guy crawled out & made a run for it but ran down the stairs right into the rest of the FFs waiting for the missing FF ( who was the Chauffeur ) to come down. .....they grabbed him & it turned out the guy was being held in the Detectives Squadroom in the PCT next door & somehow got free & climbed out a 2nd fl window into the enclosed air space on the roof of the 1st fl & into the FH........ another memorable one was while we were still on Seigel St the night of the Moon Landing 7-20-69....it was scheduled to be televised around 2000 hrs & we were on a Run just before hand....we just got back to Qtrs with about 10 minutes to spare & there was an empty space in the kitchen where our 20 inch B&W TV had been....( back then that was the only TV in the whole FH )....we jumped on the Rig & went Lights & Siren over to 237 & just made it in time to see the televised Historical Landing.....the consensus was that someone without a TV stole ours to see the landing after luring us out of Qtrs on the previous Run.... a few other FH thefts thru the years also .......one non FH involved incident was a BC leaving after work & stopping at a light nearby ....a kid walked up to him & asked " where's Broadway ?" ....the Chief said "it's right there where the El is" pointing with his left hand....the kid snatched the Chief's watch & ran in the opposite direction.....as in the watch story with the LT this kid was lucky to get away also as the BC & the LT were both Big guys & Iron Pumpers ......if either one had grabbed their perp it would not have been good.

In Houston a few years ago, the ambulance crew at 37's came back from a run in the middle of the night and found a demented lady from the block happily taking a shower. The rear apparatus room door was left open. The engine crew, of course, was sawing logs.
