A Boston Mick living in Ciicago you preserve the Gaelltic tradition. My grandfather has told me of signs saying Help Wanted, Irish and N*****S need not apply. One of the best FD's is Boston, I guess the "Mick's" feel vindicated.

GG Ive also seen signs "No Dogs & No Irish" how the world has changed lol

Declan: as I have said, it was a pleasure meeting you, introducing you to The Heart of Flatbush and Da Pride a Flatbush.  Everyone had a great time and you are welcome back anytime.

It was a fantastic week men really was the hospitality shown by all on that side of the pond was 2nd to none & John248 & nfd2004 knowledge of their respected boros was amazing really was.

I do hope to do an East Coast trip next year and take in a few cities along the way.

(John248 & nfd2004 im warning you early so you can take a vacation so you don't have to look after me haha)

Sorry about Kilkenny for you lads, Irish.  When I was there in November, there just happened to be a sub-station officer there and he gave me the grand tour.  Great station.
It is a retained station so the FFs are on call, not necessarily in the station.

Hi Guys

Well JohnD248 you'll be happy to know we did our Kilkenny trip last weekend and to say it was a great trip would be an understatement. I was collected at 7am from Dublin and we did our 90min drive to our 1st station in Kilkenny was Urlingford and we had arranged to meet a Firefighter at 9am.

To our surprise as we arrived 30mins early there were 2 Firefighters at the station washing the rigs for us. And to note again the whole of Kilkenny is Retained so firefighters are on a pager so these 2 Firefighters were not even being paid to be there. Next Station was Freshford followed by Castlecomer where the Station Officer had tea, bacon, sausages, black & white pudding & biscuits at the ready for us when we arrived.

After that onto Kilkenny City when site member JohnD248 visited last year. Again 3 Firefighters turned up from home to pull all the rigs out. They even called up the Fire Service Mechanic to come down to start up a 1950's Dennis Wheel Escape for us to photo.

We then finished up the last 3 Stations for Kilkenny and onto South Tipperary to photograph a Water Tanker (again met by Firefighters from home)

Following day we chanced our arm and drove to Limerick City on the West Coast to see if we could snap their 2 NEW rigs that arrived earlier in the year. Knocked on the door and the Sub Officer (Lieu) took us in and to our surprise pulled out every appliance except 1 as it was broke for us to photo. Limerick City is a full time station so himself and another FF lined up the rigs for us including a vintage rig which is on the site photographed with one of the new rigs.

Also inside Limerick City Station they have an FDNY Memorial wall with photographs & plaques for FDNY FF Robert E. Evans E33 (9/11 RIP) &FF Christopher Pickford E201 (9/11 RIP) as they have roots / family from the city. A full service was held in the city for the fallen FF folowing Sept 11th and all family members where invited

So that's the weekend updates they are on the site for you all to see. Hope you enjoy

Hi Guys

Long time since ive posted an Update for the site here. Just had quiet a few updates over the past few wks. To point out a few

- Incident Pages Updated (Including Photos of 2 x Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance Crashes & yesterday a Fire Engine crashed responding to a call) Thankfully all injuries are minor.

- We've added a page called "SAVE The Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance Service Page" The Big Wigs in Government want to take away the Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) Ambulance Service which has been provided by the DFB for 116 years. Cost Cutting nothing else

- We attended the annual Chief Fire Officers Conference for 2014 to see some of the New Stuff for Next year. Sad to report all that was on show was whats left to come this year. There will be NO new money allocated for New Appliances Next Year

- Finally Some of the New Appliances have arrived for this year which are on the New Appliance Page. Site Member Johnd248 will be happy to know that his Home from Home Kilkenny City's New Appliance has arrived and is a few wks from operational Duty

- Ill also be adding a link for the Boston Memorial T-Shirts which i told Uncle Willy D i'd do. Hope to do that Sunday.

Take Care Guys

What do the vehicle call signs stand for like Yankee 12 Juliet 1

@fdny747 sorry for delay in responding to your message only seeing it now

Call Signs break down into 3 parts. 1st part gives you the county 2nd part is the Station its from. 3rd part gives you the type of appliance

So - Charlie Whiskey 11 Alpha 1 would break down to (Charlie Whiskey = County Carlow) (11 = Carlow Town Station) (Alpha 1 = Pump)

See Attached for ALL County Call Signs

Vehicles OUTSIDE DUBLIN would go like this

Alpha = Engines (So Alpha 1 would be 1st Engine out Alpha 2 2nd Engine out etc)
Bravo = Rescues
Charlie = Command Unit
Delta = Ambulance (DUBLIN ONLY)
Echo = Ladder
Golf & Hotel - Special Units
Juliet = Officers 4x4
Kilo = Water Tanker
Lima = Personal Carrier
Mike = Shops Van
November - Special Pods

IN DUBLIN they use Numbers. So "Delta 11" Would be Station 1 / 1st Appliance out. "Delta 12" / Would be Station 1 / 2nd Appliance out

Their Vehicle System is

1 = 1st Engine
2= 2nd Engine
3= Special Unit (Foam or HazMat
4 = Ambulance
5 - Rescue
6 & 7 = Ladders
8 = Incident Support Van
9 = Personal Carrier

In NORTHERN IRELAND they use the UK System as they are part of the UK

Its broke down into North South East West. Depending on where you are located is what call sign you get. So if your in the East and in Belfast Central Station you would get this

E11 01 = Echo (East) 11 (Station Number - Belfast Central Station) 01 (1st Pump Out)
W11 01 = Whiskey (West) 11 (Station Number - Cresent Link Station Derry) 01 (1st Pump Out)

Their Vehicle System is

1 = 1st Engine
2= 2nd Engine
3 = NA
4 = Rescue
5= Ladder

Then they use higher numbers for there special units of which there are many

Sorry for long response and hope its not too confusing
