Seems like a simple request. Military organizations, fire departments, police departments - most of these uniformed organizations have grooming policies. These policies are set to present uniformity, morale, public comfort, maintain tradition, comply with equipment standards, safety concerns, maintenance of discipline and possible job and department duty requirements. These reasons can be subjectve and are challenged by individuals for various reasons to include sex, cultural background, ethnicity, religion and primarily - personal preference and current style. Some people just don't want their hair in a bun. It grows increasingly harder to tell people what to wear and how to look, even when they are paid and knowingly enter professions which require uniforms, uniformity, commonality and traditions. Simple isn't simple today.
