Thank you "R1...". I have the book. I enjoyed watching the video. She was able to capture a time in the history of New York City, that will most likely, never be scene again.

The book came at a time when the job was transitioning from one war zone to another. The South Bronx was "slowing down" while the West Bronx was picking up........Bed-Stuy and Brownsville were being displaced by Crown Heights and Bushwick. But places like 82/31, 231/120, etc were (and still are) full of pride and tradition. Her book caught the spirit of the men and the job.
It was an incredible time as many of us have said and we'll proably never see the likes of it again. The guys were ordinary guys who were doing EXTRAORDINARY things. And as workloads increased, the troops responded over and over again, run after run. You learned the job quick and became a thorough pro at what you did whether an engine guy or a truckie.
What a generation, the War Years Warriors......you all added new meanings to the words Pride, Tradition and Can-Do
