This subject thread focus are firehouses that are still in service - what they looked like in the past and what they look like now.

Does anyone have old pics of Engine 155/Ladder 78? I think I remember seeing a pic once in the firehouse of one of the old firehouses that was on Jersey Street at their formation.

Ladder 8 - 14 N. Moore St firehouse - built in 1905 as a ?double company? facility - two matching arched truck entrances opening onto North Moore Street. The firehouse was rebuilt in 1915 and cut in half due to widening of Varick St.  The 2nd section was also disbanded after the firehouse was narrowed.

Firehouses originally built with two bays for Double ladder companies were: L2 (on E. 50th St.), L8*, L17*, L26, L28* & L35. Firehouses originally built with two or three bays for double engine or combination companies were: E7*, E30(3 bay for 3 sections), E31, E33*, E76, E80*, E91*, E93*, E245, E246, E253*, E257*, E262, E264*, E266*, E275(Big House w/E298, E299, L127, BC50), 296(E297). [* denotes, still in  service].

GMan: last I knew, L 2, 26, and 35 plus E 245 and 246 were still in service.

Ladder 2/Ladder 2 (2) -  former firehouse - 126 E. 50th St  1913-1945    Ladder 2 (2) was disbanded in 1939.

Engine 245/Engine 245 (2)  former quarters -  1904-1968  2929 W. 8th St  Coney Island
    - Originally operated as E 145 and E 145 (2)
    - Bn 43 organized in 1906 and operated from this firehouse until 1968 when current quarters were built
    - L 161 was organized in 1927 and operated from this firehouse until 1968

    - Ladder 37 organized in 1908 at current quarters
    - Bn 27 relocated to 2928 Briggs Ave in 1978

G-man, 296 & 297 were housed together at one time?

Yes, the firehouse was originally built for Combination co. in 1908 that became E296 & L130, E297 was there from 1922 to 1931

Engine 254/L 153 firehouse    901 Avenue U    E 254 relocated to these quarters when built in 1924    L153 organized in these quarters in 1925

G-man, 296 & 297 were housed together at one time?

Yes, the firehouse was originally built for Combination co. in 1908 that became E296 & L130, E297 was there from 1922 to 1931

Looks like FDNY Combined Engine Company 130 occupied the former volunteer quarters at 18-18 125th St prior to 1918. 

E 296 was originally organized as FDNY Hose 8 at 18-18 125 St. Engine 297 was organized as FDNY Hose 9 at 14-11 114 St and relocated to 18-18 with Engine 296 from 1922-1931.

E 296 was disbanded in 1961.  E 297 was relocated to new quarters with L 30 at 119-11 14 St in 1931.
